The way you present yourself towards your pupil's parents as a school and as the school teacher or principal is important and should always get your utmost attention. Regarding the appointment of Head Boy or Head Girl (Prefect). Nurturing good pupil leaders is an important element to Primary School success as a school. Children are encouraged to develop the necessary skills to enable them to take responsibility for their school and to then contribute positively both to the school and wider community. Leaders at Primary Schol consist of the prefects of the classes. Together, they work to improve the school and suggest solutions to various dilemmas. The core leaders are the Head Boy and Head Girl who are appointed through an application process every year by the Senior Leadership Team.

Some duties of a prefect may be during playtime, lunchtime, after-school or evening, and they include:

  • Welcoming visitors to the school;
  • Attend public functions with school staff;
  • Oversee and support during Pupil Task Force Meetings;
  • Make presentations in assembly;
  • Support in planning events.

The Class Prefect need to have qualities that will enable them to fulfill
these demands. When you address a letter to the parents, make sure to type the recipient's personal title and full name in the salutation, one line after the recipient's address, flush left, followed by a colon. Leave one line blank after the salutation. Hereby a suggestion: use the recipient's full name unless you usually refer to the individual by a first name. In the first paragraph of the letter's body, you state the purpose of the letter: to appoint the child as a class head or class prefect. In the paragraphs following, you can use examples to support your main argument. In the final paragraph, you need to summarize the purpose of your letter again and suggest a suitable course of action to follow. Do not indent the paragraphs. But instead, leave an empty line between each paragraph. Close the letter without indentation, leaving three or four lines for your signature between the closing and your typed name and title.
