Every day brings new projects, emails, documents, and task lists, and often it is not that different from the work you have done before. Many of our day-to-day tasks are similar to something we have done before. An employee sick leave letter is a letter that an employee who is suffering from an illness (such as fever) or injury that incapacitates him/her from performing his/her tasks efficiently would send to his/her. It is also important to emphasize if the illness is contagious, with the potential risk of contaminating other co-workers.

Even if you love your work, there will be times your body would get sick and this, in turn, would affect your performance. That is why if the body convinces the mind to not function at its finest, employees choose to send a sick leave letter hoping their absence would be approved by the management.

In this article, we will be explaining to you the purpose of a sick leave letter and its parts. You can download our sick leave letter templates on our website and use them to your advantage by following or expanding their examples just in case you are planning to write your own sick leave letter.

So what is a sick leave letter? A sick leave letter is a kind of business letter where one would request to abstain or be absent from work for a period of time due to an illness. The employee would normally go back to work if he or she has fully recovered from his or her illness. It is a letter that is sent to the manager, HR personnel or whoever is in charge of accepting or rejecting requests in the company. After the employee has recovered and is now ready to work in the next day, he or she must submit a medical certificate as proof if ever such illness was severe. This is applicable to employees who were absent from work for more than a week.

What should an Employee Sick Leave Letter contain:

1.Date

2. The Heading.
This is one block that contains the information of the recipient or the person whom the sick leave letter is addressed to.

3. A Formal Greeting
Before you ever converse with someone politely, you usually give a greeting first. This part subscribes to normal rules on addressing your recipient formally such as using “Dear Mr…” and “Dear Mrs…”

4. Complimentary Close
This part of the letter is where you formally say goodbye to the receiver.

5. Signature
This is the last part of a business letter. It is here where you would affix your signature on your complete name to show that you are responsible for any information written in the letter and that you will be held accountable if there are misleading facts or legal issue involved.
