The flag of Guyana, often referred to as the "Guyanese flag" or "Flag of Guyana," consists of a green field with a narrow white-edged red isosceles triangle pointing to the hoist side (the side closest to the flagpole). Inside the red triangle is a narrow white-edged yellow equilateral triangle, also pointing toward the hoist side, and within that yellow triangle is a narrow white-bordered green isosceles triangle. The flag's design and colors hold several symbolic meanings:

  1. Green Field: The green field represents the lush vegetation and forests of Guyana, symbolizing the country's natural beauty, agriculture, and rich biodiversity.
  2. Red Triangle: The red triangle represents the endurance and zeal of the Guyanese people. It signifies their determination and readiness to work towards a better future.
  3. Yellow Triangle: The yellow triangle inside the red one represents Guyana's mineral wealth, particularly its gold resources. Yellow is associated with the country's bright future and the potential for prosperity.
  4. Green Triangle: The green triangle within the yellow one symbolizes the vast savannahs and agricultural lands of Guyana. It represents hope, growth, and the country's agriculture sector.

The flag of Guyana was officially adopted on May 26, 1966, when the country gained independence from British colonial rule. It replaced the previous colonial flag and became a symbol of Guyana's sovereignty, natural resources, cultural diversity, and aspirations for a prosperous and united nation.
