How to create a solid structure for a Persuasive Essay?

This Persuasive Essay Structure template can help you find inspiration and motivation and will help you to structure the essay in a professional manner.

Introduction

  • Hook: A compelling first line
  • Background information helps the reader understand your argument or issue by providing context.
  • Definitions: Explain any unfamiliar or recurring words for the reader. A thesis is a succinct, unambiguous summary of your major argument or the key point you will be making in your paper. The reader will get a rough notion of the direction your argument will take from your thesis, which will also act as a road map for the remainder of your essay.

Each Body Section

  • Just one point per paragraph to bolster your thesis
  • Topic phrase summarizes the paragraph's primary point and refers back to the thesis
  • Evidence is information that backs up the primary point of the paragraph from a trustworthy outside source (not your own view).
  • Analyze the data and demonstrate how it supports your claims / develop your case.

Conclusion
  • Finish the essay by succinctly restating the thesis.
  • Set significance (see the "So What?" handout for details).
  • Bonus: stimulate the reader's thinking
