What to bring on a Cruise Vacation? An easy way to start packing is to download and modify this example Cruise Packing Checklist now!

Packing for a vacation should be fun and exciting. To make sure you have everything you need for your cruising adventure, we’ve put together a list of our must-haves for a wonderful voyage. First thing: bring a carry-on with all your essentials. On the first day your luggage will not arrive to your stateroom until evening, so you’ll want at least one swimsuit and a change of clothes to begin having fun right from the start.

Carry-on
  • Passport
  • Medications
  • Small amount of sunscreen (under 3.4 oz for carry-on)
  • Swimsuit
  • Change of clothes
  • Camera
  • Wallet
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
Luggage:
  • T-shirts
  • Shorts (not denim)
  • Sundresses, blouses and slacks for women
  • Khakis, sport shirts and a sport coat for men
  • One formal outfit and coordinating shoes
  • Sunscreen
  • Two swimsuits so you have one for different activities like sunbathing or surfing, plus you don’t have to wait for one to dry before hoping in the pool again!
  • Versatile cover up
  • Walking shoes or comfortable sandals
  • Light rain jacket or umbrella
  • Sweater or shawl for cool evenings
  • Beachwalkers
  • Tote bag
  • Binoculars, especially if you will come across wildlife on your cruise
  • Music player
  • Electronic book reader – Check back on our blog for a list of our favourite vacation reads, coming soon!
  • Power strip, as most cabins have a limited amount of outlets
  • Alarm clock (if using your phone, turn off roaming to avoid charges while at sea)
  • Duct tape (for broken luggage, a dropped hem, pretty much anything!)

Keep in mind while packing that cruise lines usually have dress codes, and most lines do not allow shorts in the dining hall in the evening. The go-to style of dress is ‘resort casual’. This generally means khakis and sport shirts for men, and sundresses or slacks for women. There are also the occasional formal nights where men wear a suit and tie (or even a tuxedo) and women wear cocktail dresses. If this is your style of cruising, it can be nice to have a fancy evening with your significant other, and think of the amazing family photos!
