HONORS MENTOR EXPECTATIONS/DUTIES
! Mentors are required to attend Honors Retreat as counselors, and the retreat fee is waived.
! Introduce incoming students to Honors life through weekly meetings and fun activities, both on
and off campus.
! Be in contact with your mentees and fellow mentor(s) over the summer break
Attend the following MANDATORY events:
! Mentor Retreat: Monday, January 18, from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.
! Mentor Trainings: February 5, March 4, and April 8, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
! First Monthly Mentor Meeting: Wednesday, August 17, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
HONORS RETREAT COUNSELOR EXPECTATIONS/DUTIES
Honors Retreat 2016 will be held at Camp Allen on August 18 & 19. We will leave campus at 9:00 a.m.
on Thursday, August 18, and return after dinner on Friday, August 19.
Attend the following MANDATORY events:
! Counselor Planning meetings: Friday, March 18, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 3, from
10:00 – 12:00 p.m.
! Small group training session on Sunday, August 14, from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
! Retreat Counselor Duty meeting on Wednesday, August 17, from 5:00– 7:00 p.m.
! Mentors have the option to attend Retreat Planning Committee meetings will be held on April 8,
April 22, and May 6, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
! Respond to summer emails outlining details for Retreat and requesting your preferences, ideas, and
suggestions.
! Have the opportunity to participate in the Honors Retreat Planning Committee.
! Ensure a successful Honors Retreat by welcoming the incoming Honors students, heading up small
groups, encouraging participation in activities, offering insight at workshops, and generally making
the new students feel a part of The Honors College!
! Enjoy early residence halls move-in (for Retreat participants only) on Wednesday, August 17.
PLEASE NOTE: Applicants will be considered on the basis of application quality, GPA, classification,
previous performance as a mentor, advisor, and/or retreat counselor, and Honors event experience.
