Preschool Daily Schedule
The daily schedule is designed to be as open and transition free as
possible. The WIU Preschool center is a play-based program therefore,
much of our day is driven by the children’s choices of play. The center is
open from 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
7:45-9:00 a.m.- Choice Time: the children are free to choose any area in our classroom.
There are teacher-selected activities on the tables.
9:00-9:30 a.m.- Snack is available during this time for children who wish to eat.
9:30-10:00 a.m.- Morning Meeting: The children gather as a whole group to discuss the
project, plan project work for the day and participate in literacy and writing activities.
10:00- 10:45 a.m.- Project work and teacher directed center activities.
10:45-11:30 a.m.- Outside Play: We all go outside (or to the gym if the weather does
not cooperate)!! The children can choose anywhere on our playground. Weather
permitting; activities from inside can be transferred outside for further exploration.
11:30-11:45 a.m.- Music and Dancing: Music is a group experience combining teacher
chosen songs with children chosen songs. Musical activities and experiences may be
accompanied by a CD or may be sung by the children and teachers.
11:45-12:15 p.m.- Lunch
12:15-12:30 p.m.- Toileting, tooth brushing, story time and re-visiting and recording the
days experiences.
12:30-2:30 p.m.- Naptime: The children rest on cots while quiet music is playing.
2:30-3:30 p.m. Choice Time: The children awaken and put their shoes and socks back
on their feet.
3:00-3:30 p.m.- Snack is available for those children who choose to eat.
3:30-3:45 p.m.- Toddler/Preschool group music time.
3:45-5:00 p.m.: Choice Time: Depending on the weather, the children are free to choose
to play inside or outside.
