DEPARTMENT: City of Yorkton Fire Detachment
JOB TITLE: Temporary Probationary Firefighter
RESPONSIBLE TO: Fire Chief
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Temporary Probationary Fire Fighter reports to a Duty Lieutenant through the Fire Chief
and/or Deputy Chief and carries out wide variety of duties under the direct supervision of senior
fire fighting staff. This position is used to augment Full-Time Firefighting staff on an as needed
basis for vacation, sick leave, disability leave, training leave or any other approved absences.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains an extensive knowledge of fire operations, apparatus, equipment and methods used
in combating, extinguishing and preventing fires.
Manning of alarm room, relief pump operating, hydrant man duties, required training
evolutions, traffic control and support to rescue activities.
As qualified, drives and operates firefighting apparatus.
Performs varied maintenance tasks on apparatus, equipment and facilities.
When assigned performs administrative duties as required.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Must comply with the OH&S Act and Regulations, all Safety Policies and Standard
Operating Procedures.
Uses every reasonable precaution to avoid workplace incidents.
