DEPARTMENT: City of Yorkton Fire Detachment
JOB TITLE: Temporary Probationary Firefighter
RESPONSIBLE TO: Fire Chief
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Temporary Probationary Fire Fighter reports to a Duty Lieutenant through the Fire Chief
and/or Deputy Chief and carries out wide variety of duties under the direct supervision of senior
fire fighting staff. This position is used to augment Full-Time Firefighting staff on an as needed
basis for vacation, sick leave, disability leave, training leave or any other approved absences.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintains an extensive knowledge of fire operations, apparatus, equipment and methods used
in combating, extinguishing and preventing fires.
• Manning of alarm room, relief pump operating, hydrant man duties, required training
evolutions, traffic control and support to rescue activities.
• As qualified, drives and operates firefighting apparatus.
• Performs varied maintenance tasks on apparatus, equipment and facilities.
• When assigned performs administrative duties as required.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
• Must comply with the OH&S Act and Regulations, all Safety Policies and Standard
Operating Procedures.
• Uses every reasonable precaution to avoid workplace incidents.
