DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY
US ARMY INSTALLATION MANAGEMENT COMMAND
HEADQUARTERS, US ARMY GARRISON, CARLISLE BARRACKS
22 ASHBURN DRIVE
CARLISLE, PENNSYLVANIA 17013-5000
To the Incoming Students and Families of the Class of 2018,
Congratulations on your selection to attend The U.S. Army War College at beautiful Carlisle Barracks,
Pennsylvania. As Garrison Commander of this historic installation, I want to personally welcome you to this magical
place and your new home. Our entire garrison team is preparing for your arrival and excited to help you make the
most of your Carlisle Experience.
Carlisle Barracks is a historic post representative of the small-town communities throughout South Central
PA. Our post is set up conveniently to provide you access to nearly all activities within a 10-minute walk. Youth and
family activities are located together, just like retail, fitness and medical areas on post. Our fitness centers, each with
modern equipment, have the programs and experts to help you maximize your fitness health. Each year we review
feedback to improve our student and family experiences and opportunities to make Carlisle Barracks a place you will
remember.
Housing is one of the most critical decisions you will make prior to your arrival. The Garrison Housing
Services Office will support your decisions whether to live on or off post. The Army’s housing partner, Balfour Beatty
Communities (BBC), dedicates over 150 homes for students and their families - all within walking distance to the War
College. Our homes include 3 and 4 bedroom duplexes, less than 5 years old, and spacious, fully renovated apartments
at Young Hall. Whether you choose on or off post living, you will find our community neighbors welcoming and
military-friendly.
For your convenience, please use the online in-processing site using the token you will receive in an email
from the USAWC G1 (Personnel Officer). Student assignment for on-post homes is prioritized: (1) military members
(US and international) who are accompanied by family; (2) unaccompanied US and international military members:
geo-bachelors; (3) civilian students. Housing applications completed through the Online Inprocessing site as of 14 April
2017 will be prioritized according to bedroom requirements and placed on the appropriate waiting list by date of rank
order (with promotable status taking precedence). After the initial housing assignments are made, follow-on
applications will be placed on the appropriate waiting list; eligibility date = application date. BBC's goal is to provide
housing assignments directly to students no later than 1 May 2017.
I encourage you to come with your family. We’ve designed a website at
http://www.carlisle.army.mil/experience/index.htm
that talks about the wide-range of opportunities that await you
and your family at Carlisle Barracks. This is a unique time in your career in which you can accomplish your mission and
spend time with your family. Our commitment to families is unprecedented and our Child and Youth Service programs
are second to none. Throughout the year we promote popular activities like overnight “lock-ins”, Friday night
dodgeball, day trips to Hershey Park, paintball and trips to local minor league baseball and hockey games. We
maintain a close relationship with the school districts that serve our children and dedicate a school liaison office to
support all our children’s needs.
Most importantly, you will be supported by a team of Soldiers, Civilians and Volunteers whose tremendous
heart is unmatched anywhere else. It is the people and the community that make this installation one of the best in
the Army. If you have any questions, you can ask us at the “Got a question?” link on the experience site linked above.
We are excited to welcome you and your family to one of the best hometowns the military has to offer.
Welcome Home!
Respectfully,
SALLY C. HANNAN
