To Our District Pastors,
Grace and peace to you from the newly formed District Committee for
Continuing Education. We pray you and yours are experiencing the outpouring of
the Holy Spirit and the anointing of the Lord as we enter these exciting summer
months of 2014.
As our Manual states in Sections 536.15 and 527.6, Nazarene ministers are
to complete at least 20 hours of lifelong learning (aka Continuing Education) each
year. As there has been confusion in this area, this committee has been formed by
your district leadership to assist you, our district pastors, in this endeavor.
In that regard, we want to inform you about an opportunity that is being
offered that will allow you to earn ALL 20 hours of the necessary continuing educa-
tion units (CEUs) in one setting.
On January 26-28, 2015, the District CEU Committee will provide an in-
tensive class for all those needing CEU’s. The class subject will be Scriptural
Counseling: Understanding Human Nature From a Biblical Perspective, and will
be facilitated by Rev. Dr. Gary Durham and Rev. Jason Hawk. We believe this
symposium with breakout groups will provide the necessary setting to fostering our
pastoral counseling skill, as well as broadening and enhancing our theological ap-
preciation of forgiveness. What’s more, all sessions will be translated for our His-
panic and Haitian pastors, so no one is left out.
These are exciting days on our district, and we are excited to have the op-
portunity to break new ground and continue our pursuit to fulfill God’s call and the
mandate to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not
to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Ti. 2:15 KJV).
