LETTERS OF APPRECIATION
Report by the Chief Constable
SUMMARY
To inform Members of letters received from 1 April to 30 September 2006.
The total number of letters of appreciation received from 1 April 2006 to 30 September 2006
is 99.
A sample of "Letters of Appreciation" received, demonstrating the appreciation of recent
work by officers:
Missing Person:
“ . . . thank you and your colleagues . . . who kindly assisted in
the missing persons enquiry . . . when (?) was found safe and
well. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of time
spent making the necessary enquiries, also the respect and
sensitivity given to (?)’s parents when they were very
distressed about his well-being. The above incident has just
reinforced how well the services work together in the area and
that communication and liaison remain at a very high
standard. Please could you therefore ensure that the relevant
investigating officers, plus admin and reception staff, get the
praise they deserve.” (Letter 047)

threw a bottle . . . my daughter and I were absolutely terrified
and called 999 . . . the officer on the phone was very
reassuring . . . within a very short time police arrived and
through excellent work, co-ordinated the detention of these
yobs . . then escorted us safely back to our vehicle. We have
always been strong supporters of the police and recognise the
difficult and dangerous situations they deal with on our behalf.
Please pass on our thank you to your colleagues and give the
“good guys” a pat on the back from us. Well done and keep it
up!” (Letter 055)
Serious Assault:
"I am writing this letter to show my appreciation of one of your
officers, PC (?). My partner and I were involved in a serious
incident . . . fortunately, he knocked on a door where the
occupant had an outstanding knowledge of first aid, an off-duty
police officer. I had been cut with a knife . . . she put pressure
on the wound . . . and instructed other friends on what to do to
