EDVENTURE’S*MAKER*PROGRAM*MANAGER*DANIEL*CUMMINS*WILL*ATTEND*!
WHITE*HOUSE*EVENT*FOR*NATIONAL*WEEK*OF*MAKING*(JUNE*17;23)*!

For!the!second!year,!EdVenture’s!Daniel!Cummins!will!represent!the!State!of!South!Carolina!in!Washington!
D.C.!Last!year,!Cummins!exhibited!his!Kitchen!Sink!Piano!at!the!Inaugural!National!Maker!Faire,!but!this!year!
he!will!help!kick!off!the!National!Week!of!Making!June!17"23!and!participate!in!the!Nation!of!Makers!event!
which!brings!together!individuals!from!around!the!country!who!are!leading!efforts!to!empower,!support!and!
inspire!makers.!
“We!watch!Daniel!inspire!children!and!families!everyday!in!EdVenture’s!Maker!gallery!to!create,”!said!Karen!
Coltrane,!president!and!CEO.!!“So!while!we!aren’t!surprised!his!talent!has!been!noticed!at!a!national!level,!we!
certainly!are!proud!of!him!and!the!impact!he!has!here.”!
Cummins!spends!his!days!at!Edventure,!working!both!with!young!children!within!the!museum’s!Makerspace,!
as!well!as!leading!workshops!in!local!schools!to!help!students!increase!engagement!within!their!Makerspaces.!!
This!year’s!celebration!continues!the!initiative!originating!in!June!2014!when!President!Barack!Obama!hosted!
the!first"ever!White!House!Maker!Faire!and!issued!a!call!to!action!that!“every!company,!every!college,!every!
community,!every!citizen!joins!us!as!we!lift!up!makers!and!builders!and!doers!across!the!country.”!Last!year,!
President!Obama!built!on!the!single!event!by!proclaiming!a!National!Week!of!Making!and!inviting!people!of!all!
ages!to!hold!events!around!the!country!celebrating!ingenuity,!inspiring!creative!problem"solving!and!
supporting!opportunities!for!those!from!all!backgrounds!to!tinker!and!make.!!
