Scholarship Application
For Academic Excellence
About the Scholarship
Idaho Power recognizes the value of higher education in the preparation of future leaders. This strong commitment to
education includes, as part of the company’s overall contributions program, the Idaho Power Scholarship for Academic
Excellence, which acknowledges individual achievement, community awareness and involvement, and academic
accomplishment.
The Awards
Idaho Power’s $2,000 scholarship program provides 10 student fee/tuition grants for graduating service area high
school students. The $2,000 grants are conditioned upon the recipient’s enrollment at an accredited Idaho or Oregon
college, university, or vocational-technical school. The scholarship funds must be used during the school year directly
following the awarding of the grant. Scholarship grants may not be deferred or held for later use.
Upon receiving verification of the recipient’s enrollment, Idaho Power will forward a check directly to the institution
each semester for credit to the student’s account.
Eligibility
Any student residing in the Idaho Power service area who is in the graduating class of an accredited high school or its
rated equivalent, plans full-time attendance at any accredited Idaho or Oregon two- or four-year college, university, or
vocational-technical school beginning in the fall semester following high school graduation, and has a minimum
3.75 unweighted GPA (grade point average), may apply. In an effort to ensure fairness in the scholarship selection
process, all GPAs must be calculated and submitted as unweighted GPAs. Unweighted means that no additional
allowance is given for the successful completion of advanced placement courses in the calculation of the grade point
average.
Selection of Recipients
Idaho Power scholarship recipients are chosen by a selection committee comprised of employees of the company.
Academic achievement, leadership potential, and school/community involvement are the criteria by which the
applicants will be judged. The following selection standards will be used:
• Academic achievement 65 points
• Leadership potential 20 points
• School/community involvement 15 points
Selection of recipients will be made no later than April 1. Applicants will be notified of the selection committee’s
decisions by mail.
