DEMONSTRATION SPEECH
Name: Date:
Objective: To demonstrate the step-by-step process of how something is done through the use of
an extemporaneous outline and visual aids.
Directions: You are going to prepare a 5-7 minute speech demonstrating a topic of your choice.
When writing your speech and preparing your materials, include and remember the following:
SHOW the audience how it is done
Make sure to provide a purpose, thesis, forecast, and outline
o Purpose: Why are you demonstrating this topic?
o Thesis: Explain your point of view on the topic.
o Forecast: A statement that predicts the major points in your
speech.
o Outline: (Extemporaneous format) What are your key words and
phrases?
The body of your speech should have important supportive materials.
o Description, explanation, definition, illustration, and visual aids
Make sure details are in order, step-by-step
Gather materials needed and inform audience of their purpose
Maintain good eye contact, gestures, vocal variety, and time management
Evaluation (10pts each):
1. Eye contact
2. Movement/Physical Gestures
3. Vocal variety (emphasis, pitch,
diction, etc.)
4. Projection
5. Fluent Delivery (No long pauses)
6. Energy/Enthusiasm
7. Focus/Concentration
8. Organization (Intro, body/detailed
steps, conclusion)
9. Visual Aids/Materials
10. Time 5-7 minutes
Following the outline, or extemporaneous, format will better help you organize your steps.
