The Neurology Unit is under the Department of Internal Medicine, based in the
Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, a 600-bedded main tertiary
hospital in Brunei. The Neurology Unit is a patient-centered unit that provides
comprehensive care for both inpatients and outpatients. Although Brunei is a
small nation, we see a wide variety of neurologic diseases. We also provide
outpatient coverage for both Belait and Tutong hospitals (District General
Hospitals) in the form of monthly outpatient clinics. We have a Neurodiagnostics
lab in which we offer Nerve conduction studies with Electromyography and
Electroencephalography. The Neurology unit also offers a Stroke Thrombolysis
service that has been running for the past two years. The post offers an
opportunity to work with other Neurology Consultants to develop the unit in
providing a comprehensive Neurology service.
The duties of a Specialist within the unit include being:
Primarily responsible for looking after the inpatients under the care of the
Neurology Unit, providing clinical management and treatment of patients in
a timely manner and seeing referrals from the other departments and other
hospitals
Responsible for seeing patients in the Neurology Specialist Clinics in RIPAS
Hospital and other time-tabled clinics at District General Hospitals
Provide Specialist on-call service for the Department of Internal Medicine
Readily available for any urgent Neurology referrals
Provide Stroke Thrombolysis service for RIPAS Hospital
Provide service with the Neurodiagnostic labs i.e. be able to report NCS,
perform and report EMG, read and report EEG
Supervision of junior doctors in the management of patients including
procedures.
Possess a Primary Medical Degree; MBBS or its equivalent, registerable with
the Brunei Medical Board
Have completed a structured Advanced Specialist Training or equivalent in
the relevant specialty
Possess Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) or equivalent
in the relevant specialty.
Be able to interpret and report Nerve Conduction Studies NCS)
Be able to perform Electromyography (EMG)
Be able to interpret and report Electroencephalography (EEG)
An ability to report Paediatric EEG would be an advantage
Currently working in a job relevant to the post applied for
Involved in Research and Academic activities
Familiar with Information Technology and comfortable using electronic
clinical records
