GENERAL - ITEMS ARE NUMBERED FOR EASE OF REFERENCE
1. All lighting to be installed at any facilities shall use LED technology. Exceptions may be granted
on a case by case basis and only in cases where a new lighting technology is available that is
more efficient than LED.
2. LED luminaires shall conform to the following standards:
a. A minimum efficacy (lumens per watt) of 100
b. A color rendering index (CRI) of 80 or above
c. Power factor of 0.9 or above
d. Total Harmonic Dissonance (THD) of 20% or lower
e. A minimum of five years manufacturer’s warranty
f. Luminaires that are dimmable
g. Color temperature minimum 4000 Kelvin (exceptions maybe granted on color
temperature on a case by case basis, in accordance with specific requirements for a
given space)
3. No tube-replacement LED lamps that can be installed in luminaires designed for fluorescent
tubes. For example, a contractor shall not be allowed to install fluorescent luminaires with
“plug-and-play” or “ballast-compatible” LED tubes.
4. Warranty period shall be longer than five years if available, and shall investigate the feasibility
and practicality of purchasing longer warranty periods if manufacturers offer that option.
5. Luminaires shall conform to Title 24 lighting and lighting control standards.
6. Contractors may consider integral sensors for daylight harvesting and occupancy that can
controls individual luminaires. Contractors may also consider luminaires that use wireless
technology to communicate with each other or with other sensors in a given space.
7. Lighting systems shall meet the lighting levels recommended by the Illuminating Engineering
Society of North America (IESNA) for each space or intended application within a space.
8. Luminaires shall conform to minimum qualifying criteria for lighting incentive programs offered
by the given location’s utility company (LADWP or Southern California Edison). Contractors shall
apply for lighting incentive funds if project qualifies.
9. Light fixture must have easy access for maintenance.
