The flag of India, also known as the Tricolor, consists of three horizontal stripes of equal width. From top to bottom, the colors are saffron, white, and green. In the center of the white stripe, there is a navy blue Ashoka Chakra, a 24-spoke wheel that represents the law of dharma (duty, righteousness) and has been associated with the Ashoka, the Great, an ancient Indian emperor.

The significance of the colors and the Ashoka Chakra is as follows:

  • Saffron: The top stripe is saffron, which represents courage and sacrifice. It also symbolizes the country's strength and spirit.
  • White: The middle stripe is white, symbolizing truth, peace, and purity. It reflects the path of truth and righteousness.
  • Green: The bottom stripe is green, representing faith, fertility, and valor. It signifies the growth of the country.
  • Ashoka Chakra: The navy blue wheel in the center, known as the Ashoka Chakra, represents law and dharma. It is derived from the Lion Capital of Ashoka, an ancient sculpture with four Asiatic lions standing back to back, which is also a symbol of India.

The Indian national flag was adopted on July 22, 1947, and it holds deep cultural and historical significance, embodying the values and aspirations of the nation.
